Thanks for that, the car had 2 fans on when I got it, I didnt realise that this was not normal. It certainly is like a hurricane under the bonnet when the engine revved and is very noisy, I look forward to seeing the difference.

...sorry for the late reply, Islip; the fan is a twin-blade job, and it is blowing backwards. The rocking temperature gauge is interesting, that's for sure. I am guessing that the thermostat is consecutively opening and closing.

This morning, however, I shall be jacking up the front end to see if I can find the source of the squeak. Squeak, I say, squeak

Here's an update on the new radiator I installed in Oct 2008; after driving out and about yesterday (v hot in the Wess Vinglun) the water temp gauge was getting to the wrong side of 90C, so had the heater going full blast to try to get it down...

So I took the radiator off today and gave it a flush, and cleaned the matrix as best I could (hosed it down, and vacuumed it); the engine still ran a little warm when I tried it out after (around 85C, as compared to 78 which is what it ran at when the rad was new)

It's a bit alarming how much of the matrix has fallen out over 4 years, though.

I've just replaced my rad after fighting with the stat water pump rad cap etc and fitted an extra fan blade.
To concur with BMC if anything since fitting the extra blade it now runs a little cool, using more choke to start as it cools down quicker when stopped, because it is running so much cooler, too cool I think.
Is that rad really 4 years old? or are you pulling ones leg? This one was supposed to be the original after 93k miles, a good bug killer.[frame][/frame]

Just the miserable quality of parts now Dru......my rad is many many years old, and has lost a good few fins - but it seems to cool the engine ok, although a recent hard run may have gone perilously close to overheating....... I really should get round to fitting the temp gauge I bought just over 10 years ago...........

Mine is old and has lost plenty of fins too, still does the job very well so it ain't broke and I'm not about to fix it!
