Unfortunately the special rear seal arrangement was missing from my Maestro engine - or I would have had a 'go' at it. The crank flange didn't look all that different - but i think it was a bit thicker which would have put the flywheel further back. I decided to sell it on!

GAS. We are talking Maestro 1275, not mini. maestro does have a proper crank to actually bolt a flywheel on.

I've had a look in the manuals, I think it is possible, even to go on a 5 speed box aswell.

Big G. any chance you could put a vernier gauge on your maestro engine, and tell me the diamiter on the crank where this oil seal is in the back plate?
And if the backplate is removed by any chance, the distance from the block, to the outer face of the crank where the flywheel bolts to. But don't worry to much about that one just yet.

It'd be tricky, I'm afraid - I'm 130 miles away from it

If you swap the crank you would not need to machine the maestro one..
I only say this because i had to wait an age for my engine stuff to get done by an engineer, and that was just a regrind and some new pistons, not a special job....

I hate sub contracting out jobs...But as i am a joiner i can only work to 1/4" and not 3 thou...

Swapped crank will not then match up to the special maestro rear seal I suspect.
