If you go onto this thread, there's a bit of info on the Suzuki motor.
http://www.retrorides.proboards86.com/i ... read=43566
There's some pics in there as well, and from what I can see the engine's pretty compact. The only potential problem area is that the top hose comes out of the back of the head, but that's not insurmountable.
Suzuki Swift GTi Engine or was it a Huyabusa!!

Mmm!
I've been checking things out and the Super Carry 13 is looking good for all sorts of bits, but then I had another idea!! why mince around with the 100HP Swift engine, when its all been done before in the Kit-Car world - 178HP 140Torque from a standard Suzuki Huyabusa engine. its lighter smaller easier to find in good nick, well supported and the Kit-Car guys have it down to a T, so its looking more of an option than the Swift.
But at the moment old OLiVe ("52" Series IIa 2 door) is having her underbody blasted and replaced/strengthened, to prepare her for the 21st century.
I'm going to knock up a website shortly where I'll chronicle OLiVe's second coming!
PS: I will have the original 803 OHV engine and gearbox for sale shortly, and the axle later on if anyone's interested

Thing about IL4 sportsbike engines is that they develop their power at very high revs - you'll be doing 10000rpm everywhere! Also they (and their gearboxes) are designed to be pulling along something a third of the weight, so you might find it goes bang quite quickly. Bike engines don't tend to last an awful long time in the first place. No reverse gear, either.
All in all better to stick with a car engine IMO if you want something that'll be useful on the road.

Busa's are stronger than many think. I know of 8 stroked 1500 busa's in sportscars over in Australia that have done over 240 hours of running on race tracks!!! Thats getting on for 20k + running for 3 hours solid in the morning and 3 hours solid after lunch!
Back on topic though - the Swift Gti is an absolute weapon

I just got one to chuck the motor into my Allegro - my god its fast, for a 1.3 - should turn a Moggie into a bit of a missile!
Should be nice to see some pics when you get going

Hi Guys.
Amazingly we got from debating the potentials of building a rip snorting moggy to a oil burning chugger and back to the topic in about ten moves well done !
here's a pic of Olive half naked ! lol

I notice a BFH, a screwdriver and spanners - but what on earth did you use the hacksaw for?
Have you decided whats going in the hole?

The veg oil thing is worth researching via the veg oil sites. Some cars may seem to run on it ok but can have fuel pump failures in the medium term. others will last for ever.
I've run old land rovers and an old merc on waste veg oil/ diesel mix. It's ok but the exhaust smell makes me hungry.

Think it was there in case of emergencies!
I'm convinced the Huyabusa is the way to go, just about to do a deal on one. still undecided about the axle yet, alot of the kit cars use the XR4i LSD or Freelander, with half shafts made to suit track width, which will mean radical rear suspension work on OliVe. I'm still considering the Suzy van axle in a 5 point set-up, but just need to understand whether it'll take the increase in 100% power and torque, more reasearch needed!
Anyone got any feedback on the JLH coilover conversion and vented disc set-up they market?
You'll notice the metal termites where very predictable and started to eat OliVe from the ground up, but considering all she's been through over the last 56 years she's amazingly in good condition structurally, her rear spring hangers have never been touched and are mint!

I know where there is a guy selling an X11 engine complete pretty cheaply (1137cc - 125 rwhp - 85 lb foot torque -basically same as a Blackbird, but 5 gears and a bit more torque).
You'll still be paying a fair bit for a busa engine, plus you will have to use a strengthening plate to stop the gearbox wanting to part company from the engine (drag racers use this).
Good luck.
