cant you just see if you have windscreen cover on your insurance, and smash it and pay the excess?! i know...that is naughty! bad callum!

very naughty. Can't do that as the van is in a million pieces being restored, so not under normal road insurance cover. Thanks for the tip, though

Is it a one piece screen as opposed to them nasty splitty types?
Shame you're not local, I'd do it for some tea and biccies.
Single screens really are easy-peasy.
You'll be nervous if you've not done one before but they're the easiest car screen I've ever done (counting minis and early fiestas here), the 'hole' is cavernous.
You can get the screen and rubber fitted in less than half hour, the time consuming 'hard' part is fitting the chrome/plastic expander trim.
However, at this point you've already got the glass in-situ so you can take as long as you like swearing at this and make a good job of it.

affordable rate and no swearing (not on my part, anyway

Next time I will definitely do the job myself - it's not that I'm scared of it, and I like learning how to do every single thing around the car - it's just the time factor at the moment

I actually asked to speak to manager to have this confirmed as I couldn't believe my ears.

Hmmm.......Almondsbury branch of Autoglass (that's Bristol to those who don't know) qioted me £101 to remove the old and fit the new, assuming I supplied the glass and trim.
Think I'm going to have a go myself.

No it isn't! I was born there (not in the Autoglass shop...), and it was/is in a different county

With your painwork wibble I'd be tempted to go proffesional and not get it done by enthusiastic amateurs!
No offence to amateurs, but if faced with the prospect of roughing up thousands of pounds worth of flip paint, I'd respectfully run away screaming.
