There's a good chance it hasn't been converted to negative earth then. Try connecting the solenoid to the negative terminal of the battery and earth to the positive.

okay will try that when i go to work on him tomorow. Just a small question. were the terminl conector conects to. there is the another cble end like it. Should the one next to it be a batery conector also?. It just goes down into the dark depths of the engine bay

. Prety stif if i try pull it aswell.

No, that goes to the starter motor.

. didnt know if the previouse owner has atached it to something for joke. Any other exsplinations for were the the other cable comes from in the bonnit?. I dont mind if its hard to explain

I don't know what you mean. There's just two battery cables; one goes to the solenoid and the other is earthed to the battery tray, as you can see in the photo I posted. The other side of the solenoid supplies the starter motor.

I was told by morris minor birmingham that,If the negative earth goes to the body,it means its negative earthed.I might be wrong but.......
