as we are talking diffs...i think a 3.7 would be absolutely fine on 1098, again, hills would be an issue, and slower acceleration, but my 3.3 pulls my 1275 with bigger wheels so hmm...

Yes he has a marina axle... hence the mgf wheels ;)

hi, sorry, i've not been online last few days. the diff was specifically for marina 2litre AUTO(or i think dolomite 1850 auto), so pretty rare i think...a rare gem from ebay, only cost 100 english notes, but it was touch and go as to whether it would actually drive the car! not had it on a motorway incline yet though, cant wait! haha! ohwell!

Actually, I'm not so sure Dolomite diffs in any flavour are all that rare - Plenty of complete axles seem to go for not much if anything!

If a Dolomite diff fits there's also plenty of other ratios to choose from that are taller than the 4.2 Minor one - I seem to recall having at least one Dolly 1500 auto back axle kicking around, and I think they're around 3.7. So maybe all those people paying major cash for 3.7 diffs should look at fitting a Marina axle and looking for Dolomite diffs instead - Might actually work out cheaper!

But not if you want to keep the standard rims, but you do have a fair point.

The 3.7 Minor/ Midget diff is rare, but the topic seemed to have drifted to Dolomite 1850 auto diffs - Which aren;t as rare AFAIK, or at least aren't as pricey when they turn up!

yes but i think you will find that originally the 3.7 was for a riley 1500 and the 1500 midget had a 3.9

Late 1500 Midgets had the 3.7 - It was only something like the last 2 years or so of production though IIRC.

to be fair, 3.7 adds a little more then most, and i saw that diff go for what it deserved. put a 3.7 on a minor and if you use it everyday, you will get your money back in a few months. no joke!
in regard to the diff i have...auto is the only way to get the ratio i have, dolomite or not, in time, 5 speed will be added, but until then, slow hills, HERE I COME!!!
