I got a similar set that needed a lot of work to make them fit properly - there and in other places

Under the carpet? Not seen that before - which isn't to say it can't be the case, of course
Mine are under the carpet too - it'd look messy having the adjusters exposed.
They're dead handy too - you can tighten each side independently.

Closet blonde Australian.....
Dont say things like that to poor souls stuck on a godforsaken rock
Seriously... dont make the common mistake of getting ripped off - thats not a slur on all mechanics just that some of them, well the old technology is new to them.
Maybe ask the chap not that far from you where he gets his repaired ?
Failing that take a printout with you from the manual so at least if the mechanic hasnt a clue there will be a good guide to go on.

Have had some pretty good feedback about this bloke....so will see what happens. Think my best bet is to join the local club and get advice from there. Maybe if I put on a deep voice and pretend to be a man I wont get ripped off...lol

Getting ripped off happens to blokes too ! its all too common to see people join here/the club and hear the horror stories, perfect example being my scabby trav, previous owner was a bloke, it had just been bodged for years and years, only reason I'm sure it ever got an MOT was it was from the garage that had been doing the extortionate and inadequate work for a few years.

That wont help, if they want to rip you off they will do it anyway

Just a quick update. Squeak is now gone (one of the back brake pads had been put on back to front). Had everything else checked over, oil, clutch, electricals, etc. Borris is a happy boy now.. has not even complained about his daily trip up the hill to get home, even with the temperature sitting on around 40 all week here.
