Cam thanks for posting the pictures, I think it shows Chris what I meant by moving the pipework to a different location, and yes all Minors were fitted with electric pumps.

Yes Kevin, I see what you mean. The re-location of the fuel pipe would certainly help - heat from the engine / exhaust would rise away from it and there would a good flow of cool air when the car was moving.

On my last 1098 it did not have the hole for the mechanical pump, it drilled and tapped with the engine in but the sump dropped.

I have seen lots of Minors with the metal fuel pipe bent dangerously close to the exhaust which cannot help the situation

I've found the point on Phyllis' engine, although there's no hole there - nor a blanking plug. However, the architecture is there for the point to be drilled to accept a mechanical fuel pump, if required.
