I've always wandered about insects.
The fresh-air hose is so huge you'd think it would catch millions of the things.
I hate to think what the back of my matrix looks like!!

The back of my matrix was an entomologists dream; there was even a dead wasp in there... I've no idea how it got through the grille at the front, but hey. I just stuck a piece of a thin pair of tights over the intake and held it there with the hose.
I don't normally do the removal of the air intake hose for the winter; when it gets cold enough she no longer hits temperature I'd put blanking over the side of the grille with the air intake for the heater - keeping a much reduced fresh air intake - seemed to work very well

I swapped the 82C thermostat with pilot holes in it for a new 88C one tonight, and the engine actually got up to full running temperature after about 10-15 minutes on tickover. The air coming out of the heater got really toasty, but the demisters still weren't working very well. I spent a while fiddling with the driver's side demister vent and managed to get it working about as well as the other side (ie. poor rather than useless). On the downside when the cabin gets warm all the back windows steam up - they used to remain clear without a heater. I'll find out in the morning how much an improvement the changes have made.

A stick on rear demister is a god send.
Especially when there's a wet dog on the back seat steaming up the place.

Just looked at the heater a bit closer - good grief the windscreen vent hoses are tiny little things ! if you could get the air coming out of the car mode up there they would work a treat.
