Prices in Northern Ireland are also up, around £1.03 per litre. I managed to squeeze £26.52 into the tank, most expensive Minor fill up ever!!

Hey, just think of it this way .. given that the dollar is about to crash so spectacularly as to make the 1920's 'great depression' look like a bad hair day, combined with the fact we hit peak-oil a year or so ago and are now consuming oil faster than we can or ever will get it out of the ground, then the current price of £1+ is NOTHING compared to what we will be paying in 5 years time.

Luckily however I think that the A series might work well with a wood gasifier, at least a darn sight better than the EMS encumbered lumps that have been produced since the late 80's.

Alternatively those crackpots .. sorry 'visionaries' .. with their 'bingo fuel' generators might have something and we could all be driving water powered cars in a couple of years (yeh right)

Maybe, but where are you going to get vast quantities of locally-grown timber at a reasonable price?

UNleaded Petrol at Tesco is 99.9 and the local BP £1.00.9. I moved to Inverness in 1998 and petrol was 69.9 thats a 30p per litre increase and have my travel allowances followed suit - I think not. I'm glad I have my MM as if I had a modern euro box I would be subsidsing my employer - crazy man.

Have you ever noticed how when there is a fuel crisis petrol goes up right away but when crude oil prices start to drop it always takes a week or so for petrol prices to drop.

I am amazed that the general public just accept this.

Anyway enough of my rant, Jeff

£1.10p here - worse still heating oil now about 40p - a 400% increase in about 8 years or less. Red diesel way up too
Interestingly in cypus couple of weeks ago the petrol was half price but heating oil was dearer not that youd bve worried in a climate like that.

Rip off britain is what it is and I for one wont be living here that many more years !

What makes me smile is when some folks pay around £1 a litre for bottled water!

In Dorset its 98.9p at a very few garages but over £1 at most places.

I've been feeling the pinch for some time now. Using the Minor as a daily driver she only averages around 30-35mpg on a good day!

Trouble is I cant afford two cars - I'm fighting the urge to sell up and buy an old Turbo Diesel (Golf, Corsa, etc...).

But does the extra in car tax (is it around £180 a year for anything with a decent sized engine?) and insurance compensate for the fuel savings? Admittedly veg oil is now legal and half the price of pump fuel, but then you need to make sure you get a diesel that is happy on it...

With alternative fuels on the horizon, petrol prices should stabilise, else the oil companies will shoot themselves in the foot. In repsect to petrol prices and my wage 35 years ago, petrol is now extremely cheap in comparison. Both my Moggy and VW Polo return 40MPG, and if you consider that a lot of the American cars return 15 to 20 MPG, then they are in the same boat to some extent, if not exactly addressing the green issue. Slightly worrying, is one report suggests oil prices could hit $123 a barrel by early next year

To those considering LPG, there is a considerable power drop, and drop in MPG, and a conversion costs between £500 to £1000 by a certified installer. It would take a while to ge that cash back in fuel savings, and assumes LPG doesn't take a price hike if it becomes popular.

More worrying is road pricing schemes. Imagine paying £1.27 per mile to drive to your work in an inner city congestion zone. Glad I work from home.

its varing here in hertfordshire,ive seen 97p up to £1.05 a litre rip off,please use all that tax to help the dependants of all the men and women who have died serving our country,steps off soap box.

Im in Leeds west Yorkshir smack in the middle of England half way to every where and the Unleaded is 97.9p just changed today 13/11/07

I was in braintree essex at the weekend and unleaded was £1.02p ltr

Not seen it cheaper than 100.9 recently.....

Strange that... I used to visit relatives in Halifax about 20yrs ago and the petrol was always cheaper there, could never understand it as we used to refine the stuff up here on Teesside, I always filled the tank before I come home

Hi mal, im only guessing but we have some massive fuel storage depots hear that feed most of Yorkshire so may be Leeds and local areas get it a bit cheaper if that’s possible with the greedy government and multi national companies.

petrol was a lot cheaper than that when you had to have a chap with a red light walking in front

its 106.0 in gulf in honington(suffolk) 15 min up the road in thetford its 102.9 in bp tesscos 1 min away its 101.9 15 min drive in a village called watton we have 3 petrol stantions 1st is total at 100.9 2nd pace is 106.9 3 rd is esso at 103.9
now they did say the price will go up twice onece about 3 months ago then the second in april so why now who knows i kniow that in iraq for 100 leters of petrol it is only 1$
please dont for get that this sat do not fill up at all this way it will show them were it hurts it wont be long before the strikes again so do stock up if you can if you are near me pop in i have 20 leter jerry can here for you ,
