Andy... If only I had the money! Fancy giving me a guided tour of it?

No I'm not looking for a truck, I haven't got the room even for another car. I only asked out of interest.

Police vehicles didn't used to have an mot, but when my local HQ was built it included MOT bays ready for the proposed change.. They would also have to provide a service to the public as any other MOT station. Some how I don't think I will be using them. Tractors have never needed MOTs and now don't require tax no matter how old. As for using red diesel there has been a campaign to stop any body other than genuine farmers to use excise free fuel. The main reason for this was the growth in Fast Track tractors on red diesel towing low loaders carrying all sorts that were nothing to do with agriculture.

A while ago there was an article in the local paper about this.
During a routine red diesel check they stopped a number of vehicle and 6 "Fast Track's" were refered for prosecution as well as vehicles seized / impounded.
Besides running on red I assume they also had no operators licence, no HGV Class 1 licence for driver, no tacho, incorrect insurance etc.
You often see them about hauling all kinds of loads on trailers - like you say with no connections to agricultural.
One was hauling steel and misjudged a corner thus punching a huge hole in the side of a pub to the ppoint where structual engineers had to assess if still safe.
They didn't stop despite it creating chaos - wonder why

Know of someone who got caught with a hidden red derv tank on a fastrack - was very ingeniously hidden too as was the sitchover system from that to th enormal tank. He got a very big fine.
Know an ag contractor who got rid of one in the end because of the HGV license problem.
Not such an issue now as the modern ever getting larger tractors can perform similarly without there being a grey area as to thier definition.

As I understand it, even if MOT exempt, you still have to comply with contruction and use regulations, which cover all testable items and lots more. Just because you don't have a mandatory test does'nt mean you cant be prosecuted if the vehicle is defective.......
