I had a Saab 95 with a 1500cc German Ford Taunus version of the V4.
Not a fast reving engine but seemed to have loads of torque which suited my driving style.
The Saab (column change with freewheel !) gearbox broke so I had to remove the engine to replace the gearbox.
It was a heavy unit for the capacity and I'm not sure I'd want it in a Minor due to the extra weight.

There's a cheap Lancia V4 (or rather probably enough bits to make one up) on Ebay at the moment - might be worth a punt
