THe wire is one of the anchorage points for the headlining... It's fixed with a screw just behind the rear seat (I think), and to the side of each glovebox in the dashboard. Make sure that the leak is coming from the rear window - the joints around the rear arches can let water in - especially if there are cracks on the mounting flanges...

Thanks Gareth. You're right. I've been out there today trying to track this & another leak down. Does anyone know where else the leak could come from? It seems to be coming from higher up than the wheel arch. Arches are pretty solid too. Maybe it's coming in on the rear window or the side window & running round?

Well, there's the rear window, the rear quarter windows (or rear door seals, if a 4-dr) the wing/body joint... er... I suppose it might be possible for water to slosh around inside the sills and run to the back of the car, if it's on a slope... Same goes for water lying in the boot floor - that could make its way down through the rear bulkhead, under the rear seat, and make a mess of the underfelt beneath the carpets...

Maybe buy a car cover?

Humm the easy option! Might be a good idea though I guess especially as constan rain isn't going to help my enthusiasm for fixing them! It's a 2 door. This leaks not from the boot for defo that's sound or from the sills. It's definitely the rear window & or the rear quarters. Maybe I'll have to replace all the rubbers in the back.... Do Autoglass or any of the similar do a refit incl rubbers or is that asking too much?? If not I guess I'll have to have a go or follow the recommendations above!
