Still not bank breakingly expensive, and less calorific (unless you get someone else to eat the choccies)... But still a fair chunk of cash for something you'll need very little of. If you have a college or theatre locally you could always ask if they've got any old split/ tired ones you could have, or even if they've got any offcuts kicking around (which they most likely will in the run up to a production).
I would suggest wiring the light so it only comes on with the key in the ignition, and also running a test of just how hot your bulb of choice gets over a prolonged time if you use anything other than a pre-built unit. An LED running half an inch or more away from a sweetie wrapper tucked in a lens should be fine, but I'd test bench one just to be sure
