I was surprised to discover this weekend that I appear to have accidentally sprayed Fenchurch in Royale Blue instead of Trafalgar :o

I discovered this after I realised I was going to run out of paint and ordered some more from the same paint factors I got the original paint from. The stuff in the new tin looked like a dull faded version of the old paint. I contacted the paint factors and he said to send it back with a sample of the old paint for comparison. I made up a little test panel with both colours on it, and then realised it looked exactly like the simulated test panel I posted earlier in this thread. The old paint matches the Royale and the new paint matches the Trafalgar. Both tins say Trafalgar Blue on the label. Because I was changing the colour of the car I didn't have anything to compare it to and didn't realise I'd been sold Royale by mistake.

Here's the thing: the Royale blue looks absolutely lovely and I'm glad I accidentally disregarded everyone's advice and used it instead of the Trafalgar. So there. :P

FenchurchCam doesn't show the colour accurately BTW. I'll post a new photo up soon and you can see what I mean.

What happened to pink?

It's an awesome colour for a vehicle... :)

And, incidentally, I vote for trafalgar, I know it's too late, but still :)

Here's an up to the minute photo:

The camera still hasn't really captured the colour too well - it's deeper than that IRL.

I think it looks great in that colour, looks like a good finish too from the photo. Is it possible that you're becoming too self critical? I know its happened to me, I thought a finish was not as good as I hoped on a panel, but when the panel was on the car and it was all together with the chrome it was allright.

i think you've done well!

The paint finish looks better from a distance...

Anythingh I've painted looks better from a distance - especially in the dark.

Have you tried to get all your paint for free? Surely selling someone the wrong colour paint is grounds for at least a big discount...

Where do you get pasint from? I'm getting a new/old door shell and have someone who will spray it for cash if I can get the almond green paint . . .

And moving at high speed.

They were apologetic and immediately offered to replace it for free and pay the return postage when I called and said the new paint didn't match the old stuff. It was only later that I figured out the second batch was the right colour and the first one was wrong. I'll be happy if they simply get some more of the Royale to me this week so I can get the bonnet sprayed and finish putting the car back together this coming weekend.

Try looking in the Yellow pages for "paint factors" - though if it's Cellulose paint you want, many of them have stopped selling it now. You'll also need some thinners, and if spraying onto bare metal you'll need some etch primer, primer-filler, and a few sheets of 400 grit wet and dry paper. A litre of topcoat will be more than enough for one door.
