I've just found this -

I assume the big pile of washers are for shimming the caliper to centralise on disc.
Anyone know if there are alternative calipers, to Midget items, that are suitable ?
I've got the discs & hubs, can get the mounts made but am struggling to find Midget calipers.
With an old ones for exchange they aren't too dear but even old (for exchange) are fetching high prices.

I have Fiesta MK I calipers on my Mini - same bolt pitch (within thous) as the Metro 4 pot caliper - so you could try these. It's a single pot caliper and very low maintenance and reliable!
Looking at these J shape brackets - which part bolts to the upright - and by how many bolts ? It looks a bit weak to me !

I have a drawing of the bracket for the Metro caliper to Minor upright somewhere 'safe'. Will find, scan it and post on this forum.

I don't think that theres any conversion from any suppliers, so you would have to make up your own conversion. Parts are available easily I believe, but you might have to fabricate the brackets!

For Midget calipers, try Watford MG Breakers. One of my other cars is a 1500 Midget, and i've used them a few times, they're very helpful.
I may even have a set in the garage, I'll take a look.
FWIW I've got an entirely standard midget setup on my 1500 except green stuff pads and it stops really well, I've never got it to fade, and I'm notoriously hard on brakes (brembo disks and Ferodo DS2500 pads on my SAAB and it stops like this
especially when they get warmed through).
I tend to upgrade brakes first, it saves those Jesus moments

While I'm here, I'd defo be interested in a set of brackets Richard.
I've found the minor brakes to be "adequate" ('69 four door), but wouldn't mind a bit of reserve capacity, and it sounds like a (nearly) period mod, which I like.

To my untrained eye, spridget calipers look exactly the same as mini ones, but I havent placed them side to side...

They may be very similar to the older Cooper calipers ? Not same as Cooper S calipers (which sell at a premium) - and smaller than the later 8.4" disc Mini calipers which are relatively huge. Metro 4 pot calipers are even bigger - but all these calipers have the same two bolt fixing pitch - I dunno what it is and it's too cold/dark/miserable to go and find some tonight!

Remember a of lot of his ebay bits are new and ebay is ebay but I have bought bits in his shop and the prices have been how should I say, a bit more flexible and when I have seen him at autojumbles the same applies with the used parts.

The Metro calipers are definitely different hole spacing to the Spridget, and further from the hub centreline.
Still looking for the drawing, if I cannot find it will make a new one from the actual bracket.

I now have the drwaing for the Metro caliper bracket and photos of it in place.

What a performance! At last managed to upload the pictures, but there MUST be an easier way!
Firstly the actual drawing - if anyone would like a copy I can email/fax/post it.
Next the parts required for each side:
'J' mounting bracket
Spacer x 3
Button head hex drive 'Allen' M8 x 30 HT screw x 3
M8 Nyloc nut x 3
The 'J' bracket mounted off the original backplate mounting holes.
The complete set up for the solid Metro discs - vented are actually in progress!! Uses the standard Metro M10 caliper mounting bolts + Loctite Thread Lock.
The result with stainless hoses, Mintex 1155 pads, Mintex M20 rear linings (standard shoes/drums), adjustable pressure limiting valve (Mini + mods - details available) and 2.2:1 servo is unfadable, very powerful brakes that just work!
