Yes my old ZX TD is very reliable ....... but I wouldn't want to fix it on the side of the road (doesn't really qualify as modern either)
Most of this really modern stuff you need a week of dismantling to actually expose the faulty part, (assuming you carry your computer to diagnose which part has drifted off spec') then you often need cash in the hundreds and a long wait while the "jack of all trades master of none" multi marque factors inform you the part has to come from Belgium/Japan.
I do confess to hating modern cars and the way the whole thing has developed in recent years so I suppose my view is very biased
A VW colleague was telling me recently of the throttle actuating mechanism on (Polo I think) costing hundreds of pounds to replace and yes they do go wrong!
What was wrong with £2 worth of Bowden cable?

It sure did in my case! I was driving at night you see, battery was completely empty, to the last microvolt. Car didn't do anything at all anymore, no starting on the handle, nothing
And headlights are quite convenient. Thank the lord for the RAC man, how lend me a battery, and I followling him to my home, with just my sidelights on

you need electronic throttle control to meet new emmissions regulations. The car industry is an easy target for legislation, whilst many other industries pour out pollution without the same kind of legislation. Anyway - that's drifting off the subject of reliability...
The 'mechanical parts' of modern cars are extremely reliable (up to 6 or 12 years depending on which Manufacturer) - the problem is that modern cars have to be full of electronic gadgets and 'refinements' to appeal to the people who buy new cars. If you fit 10 times as many electronics, they will be 10 times as likely to fail.

well I'm glad the votes are saying the minor is very reliable as I hope mine will be too
as I said earlier I cant comment on my minor with only owning it since saturday and only driveing it half a mile

I hate the way modern cars drive so vague and disconnected

When my Traveller was in regular use it was very reliable, it allways got me home. After being laid up for a few years and the 6 month "semi resto" it had a period of what can be described as "teething troubles". Hopefully behind us now and back to reliabillity!
How Reliable would you say your minor is

I think the more you use them the more reliable they become, I've just put up a post in the off topic section, showing where I've been today, never even lifted the bonnet for three weeks, two shows and a couple of good runs out...with no probs

That's how much I trust my Moggy, where I've been today there's no signals for your mobile phone either

Well, that was probably down to the road I used. If that is what it was anyway, seemed more like a mud trial.
