If you have the original alternator (11ac) it is positive earth.I don`t know if can change it to negative earth.

That does look like an 11ac Alternator, and the other thing is the control unit for the 11ac Alternator. As I said it is positive earth and as far as I know you cannot change it to negative earth.I expect someone with more information than me will be along soon to put you (and me ) right!

ah so the soloution is to fit a modern alternator and wire it accordingly thats cool I have a decent alternator somewhere from a mini ;)
it was the rest of the car that worried me ;)
I'll just tuck the original wireing out of the way and leave the control box where it is and put the alternator in storage

The control unit will need to be removed or at least disconnected as it is only for use with the 11ac alternator.Whatever you do, don`t throw either of them away as I`m sure there is someone out there who would like to fit them as original equipment on their Panda.

yup I'll unplug it and leave it where it is and when I get rid the new owner will be supplied with the original alternator ;)
I understand the originalist owners sort of but me myself could'nt give a monkeys about originality ;)
I just love driveing classics but want some modern'ish comforts espicialy a temp gauge and music
