Kirsten if its a mutli meter you have to use it in the correct range for what you are testing for example if you had it set on the 240v scale it wont show 12v, to check the meter is ok put the clips together and should get a full deflection, one other point does it require a battery to make it work ? and you just forgot to put it in.

Hiya, its an analogue one and I did think that i had it set correctly. But I was in a bit of a rush. I hope it doesn't require batteries as that would be

Do you know what colour wires go into what connections in the ignition?

Yes, your meter needs a battery unless it is solar powered! Re the ignition
switch the connections are: Terminal 1=White/Red. Terminal 2=White.
Terminal 3=Brown/Blue.

Thanks Willie. After investigation it looks like my ignition barrel is shot. Just ordered a new one and will let you know for sure.

Cheers,

Willie, you are a wise man!! :D I have just spent a bit more time on the car and see that there is indeed a break between A1 and A in the internal workings of the control box! It must have burnt out over the years. Think that'll solve my problem.

Cheers for your help.
