at last the right bearings in, the unused one's can be returned to ESM for a refund. the bearing caps ready to be torqued down[frame][/frame]

ready to go on. Jacked up and standing by..[frame][/frame]

new gasket in place[frame][/frame]
and bolted in ready for it's prop[frame][/frame]

the halfshafts inserted[frame][/frame]

some grease to hold the o ring in place[frame][/frame]

back inside and ready for it's drums[frame][/frame]

Thanks for the encouraging comments there fellas, but there's no peace for the wicked, she promptly failed her MOT this morning, so I've been hard at it on my first day off of three. Getting the lower trunion off is quite involved. The hub, brake backing plate has to come off to allow the trunion to rotate and come off.[frame][/frame]

this was the reason for failure, "lower Trunion dust covers excessively deteriorated so that it no longer prevents the Ingress of dirt"[frame][/frame]

fair play to Mr Mot man I guess.[frame][/frame]

does anyone have a method of helping these rubber dust covers last longer, application of vasceline?[frame][/frame]

This should of been a pass and advise to be honest ... as long as there was no excessive play its not a fail.. that's the case over in the north west though.. sadly rubber now is terrible and perish quickly.. my only advise is new old stock to be honest.. or cover it with red brake rubber greese but the greese used in your trunnions will cause it to perish when you greese the king pins and the greese comes out!
Id also remove the track rod end of the steering arm and unscrew the leg from the top trunnion and replace that one also as that will only be next years fail if not gone already..

Modern repro rubber is hopeless, perhaps fing a modern ball joint gaiter and enlarge the centre hole?

thanks guys, that's a good tip about a modern gaiter, the track rod ends are new, replaced them last year. nos dust covers would be a better idea, might last longer than the 3 years these have done.

I thought the new (2012?) MOT rules mean that a split gaiter is now by default a fail, not an advisory?

This is classed as a dust shield or dust cover.. only designed to keep the dirt out.. its not a gaiter as such ie like a steering rack boot etc..

yes, these, fit on the top of the lower trunion, Now I have to order new shoes and drums for the front wheels as Mr Mot man says the brakes fluctuate, suggesting an oval drum.[frame][/frame]

i have a pair of 8 inch front drums for sale if interested they are new, i am in sussex
