I hope they widened the cake by four inches, then fixed it back together again !

A happy birthday to you, David! We all owe you lots of gifts -- heaven knows you've done great things for us, simply by doing such a thorough disassembly and reassembly (complete with all the photos!) of a Morris Minor, showing us things we couldn't easily see ourselves.
But I have no money, so I can send you no gift but my gratitude!

thanks Fin, but its I that owe you lot a dept of gratitude, the help and encouragement were the greatest gift I could have asked for. Steve PM sent, I'll put up pictures of it's clean-up, re paint in heat resistant engine black paint, and it's employment on Alice. I'll give it a good home.
Rasputin, that was a proper Morris Minor Joke lol.

Steve was good for his word, I got this package through the post this morning, as well packaged as anything I've ever got from ESM or Bull motif. Steve is the epitome of everyone on the Morris Minor Owners Club Messageboard, he means just what he says and follows it through. Thanks Steve I really appreciate it.[frame]

bit of a rub with wire wool and she's coming up a treat, I don't intend to have this in the white of course, I could varnish it to keep the oxygen off it and have it in bare steel, but I'm painting it heat resistant black, just like the original.[frame]

my favourite rust product Halfords KUrust, makes the metal go dark blue then as it works it's way into the pours of the metal it turns an attractive semi gloss black, then it's ready for a coat of engine paint.[frame]

while I'm waiting for that to dry, I'm donning the coveralls and painting my garage interior walls white, I've promised myself I'd do this for a while.[frame]

Painting the walls white will make a massive difference, as does painting the floor light grey, if it's not painted already. It will feel much bigger and brighter and you will regret that you didn't do it before now! I restored my Midget many years ago and some years afterwards painted the garage as I was selling the house. I really wish it could have been so nice when I was working in it...

100 % Neil, as you say,it's never too late to paint your garage white, especially as I'm saving up for my next moggie project, with a white garage I'll be able to see what I'm doing next time.

I painted my garage walls white some time ago and I found I could fit lots more stuff in after!

David, I've read through most of this thread and was inspired by your project to continue with my own as well as to start my own restoration thread.
I always forget to take pictures when I'm working but after seeing how helpful other people have been with you and how much your pictures have helped me sometimes when I'm not sure how to assemble something I think having a thread here is the best way to go.
I'll keep reading here and pitching in whenever I feel like I can help, and I'd also be very grateful if you and some of the amazing people who've contributed to this thread could check mine out every once in a while and share your knowledge.
Thank you
Gabriel

thanks for the kind comment there Gabriel. The white paint supply has run out, so it's as far as I'm going to get for the time being, even so, half done the light levels are better. Wish everything on the car was better, I have a list....
Starting with my shorts circuit that suddenly developed wiping out the lighting circuit, the wiper motor was narrowed down to being the culprit. Causing the whole lighting system to crash, so new wiper motor on the shopping list...[frame]

then I discover that the vacuum advance does not work on my new (ish) electronic distributer, you can suck till your face turns blue but the vacuum advance stays put, I may go back to a refurbished points dizzy if the warranty has expired on it.[frame]

the spring on my throttle is too weak for the new carburettor, or so Dave at Autopics discovered, he paired it up but recommended I get the proper part on it, and to cap it all the Alternator isn't charging the battery, could be linked to my sudden short circuit by the failing wiper motor. So, quite a list. I'll be fit as a fiddle with all the cycling to work Ive got to do.[frame]

But the one positive thing among all this woe, is the air cleaner box base unit with the inlet tube is looking great and doing the job it's designers expected it to do. Providing nice pre-warmed air channelled into the air filter and on into the carb.(thanks Steve)
The new Carb is working a treat, it's just all the other stuff on my new list, still, looking forward to tackling them one at a time[frame]

thanks Paul, but it feels like one step forward and two steps backward at the moment. I see Acuspark do a 25d Distributer for only £34.95p, not sure if that includes vat, but p&p would be on top of that and ESM do a recon wiper motor for £74.95p.

I've got the dizzy cap off, giving a good drag on the vacuum advance pipe like I say does not rotate the base plate to advance the spark. (Nice petroly taste though.) There's a small screw in there next to that spring or is it a thread? I wonder if that has any adjustment for the vacuum?[frame]

the vacuum unit wobbles, Unsure how this is tightened up to take out the slight movement, I wonder if the Vacuum diaphragm has split?[frame]
