yes you have a point there Les, I made sure the pump was properly positioned beforwe I tightened the bolts. Live and learn.
At last Ive finally closed the gap, the engine is now officially back in. My son Harry came home from School at 3.15 this afternoon as I was placing the engine in, at a quarter to eight it's back in, time for a little victory drinkies and a good long bath.Tommorow I'll finish connecting it back up and running the engine.[frame][/frame]

Thanks Mike and Pete, I was up early this morning finishing off bolting up the engine to the gearbox and the towers to the engine bay, all the electricals connected, just the radiator and front panels to go, filled the engine with fresh oil, crank handle, several turns to prime the oil pump as per Bobs advice and, so far, not a drop of oil to be seen underneath, of course the real leak test will be when she runs.[frame][/frame]

Radiator panel loose fitted, just makes me feel close to the final stages, unless she leaks worse than before, in which case it will all have to come out again, keep your fingers crossed for me.[frame][/frame]

cheers Paul, it would seem so, well, I made mistakes but in my opinion, Ive got away with it, there appears to be no leak after running the engine for a minute. Phew! so after all that hard work it was actually worth while.[frame][/frame]

The final problem to solve, forcing the wings in a few mil and pinch them in place with the hockey sticks against the edges of the rad panel for that completed look[frame][/frame]

first test drive, just around the quiet streets near my home, no oil escaped at all, early days yet, I'll monitor the situation. The engine kept cutting out under idle, until I adjusted the idle screw on the carburettor, then she ran ok. The next big change on the list is a new Carb. But that will have to wait till next month, I need some rest.[frame][/frame]

Thanks DB84, well it's one step forward and one back, the pipe from the radiator has sprung a leak, took a while to spot where it was coming from as the fan sprayed it around the front of the engine, giving me a few red herrings to chase, after nipping up all the rubber hoses and still leaking fluid I discovered this, I double checked the rubber pipe connection is dry, so it's the metal pipe to radiator weld joint that's gone, I wonder if I can braze it up with plumbing solder and stop the leak?[frame][/frame]

i am sure you'd be able i am even more sure that someone will be along to confirm this

thanks Scott & Neal, I'm going to give it a go, I went all around town looking for this, the plumbers merchants, autoparts, hardware shop, ended up in B&Q, they all did solder, but in £20 reels, I got this small one for £3.50p. I bet there'll be loads left after this tiny job. It even says for plumbing and automotive use on the packaging.

Radiator out, it's been in and out regularly in the 1 and a half years she's been on the road, and still I have never been able to avoid a massive puddle of coolant under the car, Still, never mind, time for some fresh stuff when this goes back together, hopefully this afternoon. I need the car tomorrow for a longish road trip.[frame][/frame]
