getting the pivot bolts out of the top is proving problematical, its difficult to get a purchase on the tapered end to stop it turning with the bolt
You're replacing the pivot bolts, so....
5" angle grinder (prefferably with 1mm disk) straight through the nut right by the washer ;-)

Keep the grinding grit and steel sparks out of the trunnion threads though!

Yes I agree, sometimes there is no choice but to just zip through the metal to get a part free. regretably I had to disc cut off these pedals as the spindle bush was corroded solid onto the spindle preventing it from sliding clear. Ive got a replacement set of pedals ready to go from the pickup relic.
Image
It was threatening to rain this morning so I mounted the cab onto the chassis and wheeled it into the garage to keep dry.

I'll have a bit of a sweep up and await those front suspension pins that Ive ordered.
Image
It's a bit tight but theres just enough space to fit up the front suspension in here.

It'll be a change to work with clean painted and new parts.

Most certainly a classic case of "if at first you don't succeed". Shame Taupe has gone quiet, Eveline and this thread are great reading.

David, I hope you are celebrating with plenty of tea during this project!!

Thanks Dave and Dean, cups of Tea a plenty, can't wait to get it on four wheels. Even if the engine is a long way from even being looked at.

well at last the pivot pin arrived, oddly, no packing,it was loose in this box! still, ebay, you pay your money and take your chance, hope the threads not damaged with it rattling around like that. still, an original bmc part. just waiting now for the new bottom pins. Hope they're better packed

Actually there are 2 versions of this part, one has a finer thread than the one you have, and I think that one is more likely to be genuine, or perhaps an earlier one. The finer ones have a quality finish.

Thanks Les, here the old pin has been cut away with an angle grinder, the new one inserted ready to be tightened up, notice somthing wrong?

I'd inserted the pin back to front, so after tightening the whole thing up and checking it was the mirror image of its opposite number, it all had to come apart again, that'll teach me for having the radio on in the workshop when I should have been concentrating.

put the trunnion on the steering leg first and then bushes and pin when its all on the arm of the front damper much easier, do not fully tighten until the full weight of the pick up is on the suspension

Well the right hand trunnion has it's lower thread worn away so that won't be going on the car.
Image
I have spares so a suitable candidate is available as a replacement, just needs a bit of work with the wire brush....

With the lower threads wrapped in masking tape, the rust has been wire brushed off. Now its time for a spot of rust treatment before it's first coat of primer.

kRUST treatment, does exactly what it says on the tin, wear gloves cos it stains your hands like mad. But it leaves the metal this rather attractive shiney black.
