It did??
Actually, this was my first time ever
off-site with a nice gite up the road - roaring log fire, decent oven for cooking, nice comfy mattress at night. I didn't regret it when I saw poor old Martin W's tent sinking into the mud, but that said I dont think I'll go off-site again - you miss too much of the tent parties

I would love to join you but my car just wont be ready in time. Do you know if you plan to run this trip next yet? If so - put me down for that! Sorry, i wish i could support it this year but but i havent even had time to give Horrace a much needed oil change at the moment!

I've got my accommodation pretty much sorted apart from near Oulton in Staffordshire. All the Youth Hostels in the region are booked up and I can't seem to find any campsites that take my fancy. A bit surprising, but there you go.
Any locals got any recommendations for me? I'm looking for something very cheap and preferably self-catering in a nice location with a bit of character. I don't mind camping if it's somewhere fairly quiet and picturesque (ie. not right next to the M6 ;). Am I asking too much of Staffordshire to be able to provide that?

Forgot to mention a money saving tip - fill up with petrol at tesco's inverness, that will get you from there up and back again, the further north you go the dearer it gets - more so when you get to Orkney.
Tescos is to the right of the A9 about a mile before you get to inverness itself. Its signposted business/retail park via sliproad to the left which is a roundabout under the dual carriageway.
Theres a Burger King there too !

Are you meeting up in the Penzance / lands end area before the start of the run ?
If so it sounds like a good excuse for a pint. !!!!

How about the White Heart at Ludgvan just off the A30 about 2 miles East of Penzance - a good Cornish pub serves a particularly good pint of real ale, a proper pub not one of those up-country gastro pubs! Let me know what your ETA in Penzance might be.

Trenowin: if you PM me your phone number I'll give you a call on the day when I know what's happening.
I've put my itinerary into
Google Maps.

Alex & Ray
Quick update - just PM'd judge - not sure if your aware but been having a hell of a time getting hold of anyone regarding the rally.
Actually got somewhere this morning with a few visits here and there and some phone calls.
Turns out the Secretary of the rally for whom were the published contact details has been and is terribly ill, so its been going to pot.
Anyway have the details of the person whose dealing with it now, for inclusion in the program they have to have your car details by tomorrow evening - i'm assuming Judgy has the details of your cars but if not can you get them to him ASAP.
Get this for a bizzare coincidence, the chap doing the organising only lives a mile and a half from here, but wait for it - is a MM owner and has been a club member for the last 10 years !!!
He was just telling me the trouble he'd had getting a door so have pointed him in the direction of this board where he might do better
Oh and Judge dont forget to sort out the local rag - think its a 2 day delay from final copy to publication on a thursday, and should track down teh chap with 2 travs this afternoon all being well

Kevin.
On receiving your PM I imediately PM'd Alex & Ray.
Glad you got hold of the OVC, I couldn't!!!!
I have contacted the local rag and hopefully they will get some pictures of us as we get off the ferry, as well as during the rally.
Just to add the vital part to your last bit for the benefit of others, both travellers are split screens!!!!! Told you there were more split's in Orkney than 1000's

Cool. I'm sure it'll come together.
I've just been sorting out my long-disused camping equipment. I think the last time I went camping it was in a cave (seriously)...

Well I'll be down there when you arrive anyway by hook or by crook, if the weathers reasonable will catch some nice fresh mackerel for the BBQ that night
Thats silly traffic day up here - population 20k - County show attendance 15k - and have to go round 2 of the 5 roundabouts to get there - still at least we dont have traffic lights
both travellers are split screens!!!!!
Pah thats nothing - have a split screen range rover here that Alex & Ray will need to get over the fields
Moral of the story dont forget you put a huge rock on the bonnet to hold it down in the wind and completely miss the fact its there the next time you lift up the bonnet
