The old head had HUGE chambers for a very good reason - you want LOW compression ratio when using a turbo (or super) charger. So DO NOT get the new head skimmed down. You really will need to open it out (and remove the beak) - but I agree - try to leave as much meat at the edges between the chambers as you can. I rather think that block will need boring now - to remove the score marks - so you should be looking for oversize pistons. That damage looks like it's been caused by 'detonation' - is your boost pressure properly limited with a wastegate ? And do you use top grade fuel + octane booster additive ??

This is true!
I intend on opening up the new head and polish it all up one evening at work. The head im picking up is a standard metro Turbo head. The original head i took off has been skimmed anyway.
Looking at it if i was to re-use it I could actually get it skimmed another 10 to 15 thou to get a bit more beef between cylinders then fit a Lazer cut spacer plate to get the material thickness back.
Thats one way to go about things the other would be just to rework the new second hand head ive picked up give it a little skim then just refit.
The head I took off has been really reworked! the heads actually warped laterally along the centreline of the block due to the heat we think its also dropped a ring on number 3!
The liners on the block I think we can get away with a quick hone TBH as there seems to be no actual scoring on the bores just squished metal from the rings I think.
The tops of the pistons have been lightly machined down again to get the compression ratio down so havent been able to find the correct size of them, going to have to take them out to find out what size they are which is a pain, was hoping to find out then order everything up!
Keeping a keen eye on eBay now for Pistons and rings!
Boost ive been very lean with, only run it upto about 4bar Max mainly keep it on 2-3 which still gives the grin factor!

What about getting a complete metro turbo engine and swapping cranks over?
It'll still be quick!
Sounds like you're planning a lot of work whichever way you go...

Rear seal doesn't exist - so no use in Minor. The Turbo block is no better anyway - although they did have specially hardened cranks - and 'no groove' bottom half main bearing shells. The shells idea was later carried over to all the 1275 East/West engines

My Blocks Sleeved as well, so it'd not really be worth changing blocks as you'd end up with something not as good as you started, the rest of the engines ok though, so the plans to whip the pistons out, give it a quick Hone and if its all ok get some new Pistons and then pop it all back together again and we're away.
She's still parked up on the road which a pain to see everyday.
Done my knee in too at the moment so cant really do much surrently which is doing my head in!

Hello health12. i've not been intouch for a while (changed user name used to be jono&june)
I've just caught up with this thread. You've been having fun.
i've just started looking at doing the 1275 to serria box conversion ( see the topic on the mechanicle forum page).
i've just been browseing your pictures to try to see which bits of which gearbox are on your car. The ront does indeed look like a morris box. is the bit after that thats intresting.was it custom made or is it the kit that you can buy ?
also any idea which clutch plate you have in ? I know the serria fits the marina clutch housing but will not go in the morris bell housing. it would be nice to find one the right size for the minor flywheel with the serria splines.
If possible next time you are underneath could you take some more pictures and if possible take some measurments as to how far the gearbox is from the backplate. that would answer some questions
goodluck with the engine

If they are any use I have a set of used standard bore dished 1275 pistons from a marina engine with gudgeon pins. Yours for the cost of the postage (about £8?)

Cheers Matt.
Havent been on here for a while. Been soooo buisy.
Im after a set of pistons and rings that have a diameter of 71.5mm
Just been out to measure the bores and looked up the sizes at the garage but gona have to start looking asap for some more pistons now.
Bought a new haed in the mean time, just overhauling that at the moment at work in my spare time and bought a new head gasket kit. So alls shaping up.
Will be taking the engine out to do the work, so much easier to do and I can get everything painted up and blinged at the same time too!

Hello Healthy
I've been blasting around in my turbo'd mog which is a bit naughty really because its definitley not totally competent in the cooling department have you got yours sorted? how is it cooled ?
have you got another post?
