I would not dismiss it as wrong, there are many occasions when a cold chizel and lump hammer works a treat. The mess you are seeing is probably someone not sure wich way it undid and was not prepared to give it a good whack incase he he missed and smacked his knuckles. (also could have been a she, not wanting to stereotype bodgers!) :D

does anyone have a picture of this rear bodywork brace, I think this must have rusted away completely on my original pickup relic, I wonder if you can buy these or if not make them. If I had an idea of what they looked like and how they were folded.
Does anyone have these fitted to their pickup or van?[frame]Image[/frame]

It's just a squared off U section, about an inch and a half across the top from memory.
After about 30 years they mostly succumbed to rust and metal fatigue, broke off one end and rattled or dragged on the road and got removed.

Here are a couple of pictures which might be of use. If you're interested I can take measurements tomorrow, when it's daylight.[frame]Image[/frame][frame]Image[/frame]

The original struts look like this, they are 20swg, but there is no reason why you can't use angle iron as seen in the last post, although it would be more difficult to spot weld in place. Depending on which way you go, I can add measurements if required, although you can get an idea from the scale.

Thanks Guys, hey its great to get the old gang back in again, there's some very useful images there thanks.look fairly simple to fold up, having them in would only add rigidity to the rear tub body, and thats gotta be a good thing.
Through the mist and rain, postman pat has trudged onward in his everlasting postal quest, handing me the first post christmas brake bits I ordered, before the vat went up. 20% now ladies and gents, even we morrisers will feel the pinch.[frame]Image[/frame]

Why do you have 4 flexi pipes ? I thought there are only three on the Moggie ? ( one for each side of the front and one at the back centre )...

Hopefully one of them is the "longer" rear flexi for a van / pickup also?

looks like I have two spares then, this brake parts buying could turn out more expensive than Ive budgetted for.

David, check what you have got first, just in case. The LCV rear flexi should be 16 3/4" long.

looks like I'll need to track one of those down, the hoses are all the same length. I may need to get a new set of unions if the present ones are in rag order. The last of my post christmas purchases arrived today, the handbrake cables and rear cylinders.[frame]Image[/frame]

The gash bin emptied out. There are bits and pieces in there that I'd forgotten about...[frame]Image[/frame]

the brass unions should be salvagable. you should definately try to save the 4-way one with the brake light switch on as i don't think you can get them new!

David - get the brass fittings nice and hot with a blowlamp and you might just be able to undo the old brake unions

good advice there, thanks, the first juction was easy to heat up and disassemble, there was enough rusty nut to get a grip on.[frame]Image[/frame]
