Ok, the outer race is 72mm, and the inner race is 34.8mm, but it's not easy to measure the inner race, as it's still on the cage! This is the cage bearing, not the pinion bearing. The bearing is 17mm thick.

It is not 34.8, it is 35mm. It is a metric angular contact bearing. I use SKF 7207B 35x72x17mm with a metal cage-not polyamide!. Original bearings may have been R&M 19LJ35. 35mm Shims are readily available (Google DIN 988).

Without having a bearing to hand, it looks
Iike a 72mm x 62mm x 0.00**mm shim would fit. It certainly doesn’t look like I need to go outside the UK to source them.

A 72x56 x"X"mm is a standard size not a 72x60mm.

I thought it might be 35mm, but my bearing is still mounted in the cage with the pinion in it, so it's not easy to get an accurate measurement.
Odd that on a car with almost everything else in Imperial measurements, the bearings should be metric!

Yes,
I have installed them on an MG TD ring gear and pinion conversion that I am currently doing. The same bearing is used.
