Are NEW 7/16, ww 1/4 + 5/16 nuts/bolts available?
Nowt wrong with SS unless you're seriously into concours. 'tis a delight to come back to in a few years time and be able to undo them just as easily as the day you fitted them.
Yes, WW and BSF nuts and bolts are available, even in stainless steel if you wish. Not cheap though.
Do a search on 'Namrick fasteners' if you want to find a supplier of BSF. Various others about though.

Tonight I popped over to the owners house, where much of the trim and stuff removed early in the strip down is stored, It was the first chance I've had to see some of this stuff in over a year.
Something of interest has come to light; Our pick up is Persian Blue, with an Arizona Beige interior, early on I asked about the correct colour for the kick panels, should they be brown to match, or black? We've ended up ordering new ones, in black because there's no alternative, was there ever? Well I can now categorically say that originally they were brown. The original panels have been covered in nasty 70s carpet, a bit of careful peeling today has revealed a brown panel underneath. They are unfortunately scrap, but at least we know now for sure.

To the best of my knowledge - what little there is of it anyhow, kick plates silver.

Turn them over & they're black.

You sure the 'brown' you mention isn't carpet glue(?)

I detect a confusion in terminology here :) ...

Kick plate: metal angled thing that bolts on and covers the sill that you see when opening the door. Should be sprayed silver.

kick panel: fibre board piece of trim at each end of the parcel shelf under the dashboard. Only available in black these days as are the door trims. Would have been brown as the original door trims are. Only way is to paint a pair of black ones...

Hope that helps...

Iain is right. 100%, I'm talking about the fibreboard panels inside, down by your feet.
Shame you can only get them black now. If anyone had a nice pair of original ones in brown, that they don't need I'd be very interested.
Whilst I'm on the subject of things we need, one hockey stick is missing, the drivers side one. I suspect a repro replacement would stand out like a sore thumb, so again if anyone has a nice original one going spare, you know where I am. Doesn't need to be perfect, but certainly better than average. a couple of minor marks we could live with, big nasty craters we could not.
last thing on my mind at the moment is the fuel tank; after 30 years going nowhere ours was shot, absolutely rotten. Are the repro ones any good? Or again does anyone have a nice original one going spare?

So, almost a year since I last posted, I'm back.
Things have progressed somewhat slowly, (not of my doing I hasten to add) but we're on course again now.
I'll put a proper update up later, along with some pics, but for now a quick question as I'm struggling to find a decent picture; does the brake line from the rear of the master cylinder to the rear axle go through, over or under the crossmember in the chassis, the one with the large central hole flanked by two smaller holes? Am I to assume that the brake line goes through the hole on the drivers side and the fuel line through the passenger side hole? Assistance would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

It goes through the smaller hole. Originally there was a piece of split rubber about 4inches long that was slid over the pipe at that point for protection. The same applies to the fuel pipe passing through the other hole.

I now see there's a top and a bottom position available on the retaining tabs. so what's the other for? And which should it be? Again I'm assuming the top position so it goes over the rear tubular crossmember.

Next question, does anyone have a picture of the bracket that holds the three way brass union on the rear diff casing? Part number ACA5017, seems I can't buy one so will need to make one.

It's a good idea to keep the pipes as high as possible.
I'm pretty sure this is the bracket you want. The large hole is 5/16 the small one 1/4.
I think you'll find the curve is to fit the diff profile, if I remember.
One leg is (1 7/16) long the other (7/8)
From the inside of the right angle to the centre of the larger hole is 5/8+ a whisker, and to the smaller hole 7/16

OK so the update you've all been waiting for; (Or not as the case may be.)
After blasting there were of course a few minor (pun not intended) issues that needed attention, This was completed and the shell was then handed over to the paintshop, however various day to day jobs have taken priority and after about a year of non activity it finally came back to me a few weeks ago with all filler work complete, the undersides coated with a modern stoneguard and primed and guide coated, ready for final mock up before paint.
So we're we're now moving forwards at a pace, I've started on the chassis building stuff back up again, rear axle, brakes, springs etc, and such like.
Image
Image
Then followed the big mock up, cab, rear buck, cab back, doors, wings bonnet front panel and front bumper were all fitted, removed, tweaked, refitted, adjusted and readjusted until I was reasonably happy with the gaps. Please note that the following pictures don't necessarily show final gaps.
Image

The whole lot was then broken down again, and the big paint is in progress. Starting with the cab which got a final rub down and prep before being painted inside, outside and underneath, along with the front inner and outer panels.

When I left work Friday the rear buck (which had already been top coated underneath) was being painted on top and inside, along with the cab back. Another large order of bits and bobs including lots of new fasteners has gone into ESM, so hopefully that will arrive early next week and reconstruction can continue at a pace.

Bracket arrived today Les, many many thanks.
So what has today brought?
Well rear buck and cab back are painted:

Image

Cab was placed on chassis, I'm waiting for some proper BSF fasteners before I can bolt it down, so I busied myself fitting up whatever I could to make a start.

Image

Things are progressing, but it's slow work, cleaning out every threaded hole with a tap, working out exactly what fasteners were used originally, cleaning fasteners for reuse or moving onto something else if no decent fasteners can be found and making sure some are on their way. Those things that can be fitted are all individually cleaned, checked, and fitted incredibly carefully to avoid marking adjacent paintwork with a slipped screwdriver or spanner. I'm enjoying this.

Very disappointed with one thing I found today though, bought a repro wiring loom, I gather I'm not allowed to say on the forum where it came from, but anyway, the speedo bulbholders are rubbish, the 'crimps' inside that should provide a means for the bulbs to screw in are very poorly worked, to such an effect that the bulbs won't fit. Guess I'll have to splice in all the original bulbholders from the old loom. Hardly a good situation when you've paid good money for a new loom to avoid dealing with making good the old loom.
