Google maps isn't suitable for this idea, nor is adding names to a list which will just sink without a trace once people have stopped adding themselves.
So I've set up a map on Frappr which is much more suitable for this application.
I did pinch the idea for a name from Dan Harris.
As with Google you will need to register but I've never been spammed from this site so no worries there.

<div><embed quality="high" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" src="http://www.frappr.com/ajax/yvmap.swf" flashvars="host=http://www.frappr.com/&origin=unknown&l ... 8720534260" salign="l" align="middle" scale="noscale" width="600" height="400" ></embed><div 8)

Ummm, would you mind telling us why, or should we just take your word for it!

Sorry I didn't say why I think this.
Google maps is aimed at individuals creating maps for themselves that they can share with others.
Two people have already created maps of where they are which others can't add themselves to.
This would lead to 20, 30 or however many separate maps which I don't think would be very useful.
I'm open to suggestions it just seems to me that neither Google maps or a long list of names on a message board will do what is required.
If we want this feature the ideal would be to have it hosted on this site as the person from theminorsite suggested.

Well yes, it is. Although the impementation we are talking about here is a custom-written API of Google maps which has been specifically designed to operate within the membership framework of a phpbb2 board. This avoids having to register just for the map, as your standard board membership also works the map.

Well thats because the two maps created thus far hadn't been implemented correctly, which is in no way meant as a criticism of those that set them, just to say that it is easy to use, but can be tricky to set up

That was me  . I wasn't suggesting it though, merely acknowledging that the committee in general usually prefer to keep things 'in-house' so they can maintain control. As I pointed out before, I'd spent some months with the author of that API working through glitches etc and am pretty pleased that a worthwhile and bug-free application has resulted. I dont have the traffic that this site does but I've still managed to get about 100 on 'my' map, without any problems whatsoever.

Sorry again
I saw it as a suggestion and thought it was a good one, I even registered and added myself to your map. :)
All I was suggesting was that Frappr is more suitable for everyday people who don't want to be doing anything with APIs to use than Google maps.
The ideal would be a map like yours hosted on this site.
What has happened to healthy12 who floated the idea in the first place?

This is a really fun and terrific idea, but some of us aren`t in the U.K. Is there any way that we can be mapped out of the U.K. too? :D

I have registerd and put myself on this a long time ago its good. I think this is the way to go. We can then have our owne MMOC map. Take up this ace offer
