Better Sweep of the Wipers!

I recently had problems with the wipers on my Moggie with reference to the position of the Park which was soon sorted with help from members. The sweep of the wipers was quite poor and as I've only recently bought the car, that part of its history was unknown. On removing the top cover of the wiper motor, I noted the plastic toothed cog inside was marked 100 degrees. On turfing out various spares from my garage that I have accumulated over the years I found another motor of similar style from a car which I no longer have a clue what it was. The cog inside that was was marked 130 degrees which I have now swapped over and makes the wipers sweep the screen very well indeed. Putting the cover back on loosely and turning the dome top with the wire attached a fraction at a time, now means the wipers also don't hit the base screen rubber with an annoying thud.

You can have one too - its easy, just take your wiper arms off at the base and move them round the wheel a wee bit!

My wipers seized up, just greaing the gearbox of the motor meant they moved faster on a slightly larger sweep

The trick in the old days was to look for that gear with the 100 degrees on it - to stop the blades hitting the rubber at the sides ! You could then wire a resistor in to the field connection - and get high speed wipers (relative term I have to say - but faster than normal !)

I've been trying to think back to gcse electronics to think how I could make intermittent sweep wipers for those drizzly days.
