I would like to pack it with grease. What type should I use? Would there be an advantage in using modern lithium based grease (the grey stuff)?
And how much should I put in it?
Motor works quite nicely btw, I have bench tested it, and I can confirm it doesn't need an earth, other than through the switch

Grey? I use Morris (how apt?!) general purpose lithium based grease and its...well grease coloured! I've just had my motor gearbox apart and it looked very generously greased from the factory....so i removed the old grease and followed suit.
Ok will look on the whatsit to see if it's lithium based

Onne normal bearing grease will be fine as its probably a little bit thinner than was used originally and often when taken apart the original grease has an almost glue like consistancy that must make the whole thing suffer from quite a bit of drag.

Will do. I now see on my photo that I really should stop messing around in the living room. The carpet isn't getting any cleaner!
