A very cold 1967 minor
Hi Guys - still finding my feet and putting things right. The heater in my car does nothing . The fan doesn't work-hopefully just an elctrical issue but I can get no warm air into the car at all. The heater valve on the back of the head moves with the cable really easily yet the water pipes do not get warm in any position of the valve. What would be the logical course of events to getting it working.? I was close to buying a new valve but at 20 quid I am reluctant incase that isn't the problem. Please help

Flush, Flush and then flush again.
Old story with Moggy's Lots of info about heaters even a video on one of the ladies websites. Clean out the cooling system and both heater rad and the real one before you start replacing bits.

Yes - you should be able to feel the pipe from the head getting hot quite quickly.
The valve may not be opening properly, the heater (or hoses) may be fairly blocked, the thermostat may be stuck open meaning most water circulates the rad, or your waterpump may be shot.
You can check the operation of the valve fairly easily - remove the hose, start the engine and operate the valve - in the open position you should get a strong flow of water and in the closed position you'll normally just get a trickle.

I think. Sadly my 'high quality' hosting provided by Zest Host (for that real lemon feeling) is down... again. Mind, I expect it'll be back up in a few hours.

I've probably got a small box full of valves that seem fine on the outside, but the rubber stopper isn't moving on the inside... So definately agree with pullnig the hose and seeing if you get wet
If the matrix is blocked then no water can flow, so the pipe won't get hot, so lots of flushing required.
As for the motor, I recently found the switches seem to give up if not used for a long period of time - It's worth taking the wires off and bypassing the switch to see if that's the problem (you can also check for 12v while there) before digging further under the dash

Evo, I've just had sort of all of the above done, and now my 67 2-door knocks out heat like a thing possessed. They replaced the radiator, flushed out the matrix...now it's positiviely warm within about 500 yards!
