Seat belt anchorage

Post by johncannon »

My 63 4 door had seat belts fitted in the late 70's -although the garage who done this clearly did not know Minors very well. I have reloacted the lower door pillar anchoarage to the correct loacation in the sill (it was bolted to the floor), but the central clip fastening is bolted directly to the floor.

I have looked at others and it should be on the tunnel. Is there any specific location for this? I have removed some belts from a later scrap car but now need to locate them correctly. Can anyone advise?

I can't advise on placement, but personally I'd be VERY reluctant to use belts from a scrappy. 'S up to you though :D

Mine has them bolted to the floor - seems OK. I'd also think twice about using secondhand belts...

I'd agree about old belts - don't use them. New ones are about £25 - £30 and surely your life is worth that. I'd also agree with you about the tunnel being the best place, far better than the floor. You can get belts with different length buckles. I find a 12 inch buckle allows it to sit comfortably beside the thigh, whilst the bolt is just up from the curve of the tunnel (from the floor) so that the reinforcing plate (must be used) can sit flat against the tunnel wall. Keep it clear of the handbrake cable.
