If fuel is getting through and the plugs are sparking, then the timing being out is the most likely cause of non- starting.

After trying to start the car, is there petrol on the plugs?

Folks I've helped in the past start their cars have accidentally put diesel in the tank or got the spark plugs back on in the wrong order after doing a service. Check you havent got the plug leads one plug wrong!! Try keeping the 1342 order but move them round so the "1" starts on a different post od the dizzy.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

The firing order's right? Don't laugh, it once took me an age to twig I hadn't put a dizzy arm in (I know, you said the plugs were sparking, but sounds electrical anyway). Errrr - plug gaps? Check everything that side 'cos it sounds like you've done fuel.

Is there any compression ? And is the petrol 'new'. Maybe it's just all flooded up now. Have you actually SEEN the sprak plugs sparking ?
