Lightening Minor flywheel.

Post by wanderinstar »

Has anyone lightened a 1098 flywheel, and if so by how much? Was talking to a couple of "Mini" blokes and they reckoned about 6lb, no more no less.

It's less important on a Minor Ian - the car is so heavy anyway that the flywheel doesn't make as much difference as it does on a Mini. But if you must do it - be sure to have the thing perfectly 'true' on the lathe before you start cutting - otherwise you may affect the balance. And leave plenty of meat at the edge where the ring gear fits on - you don't want that coming loose.
