Hi all,
It’s been a cold winter for the twin cam mog! After failing to repair the brakes it’s been sitting in the garage neglected – I replaced the master cylinder but I think I managed to strip the thread and cause a tiny leak of brake fluid! Well that’s what I think I’ve done?
I’m thinking of selling her but I know what little money I’ll get for her will consumed into mortgage interest repayments and that just doesn’t seem like cricket!
Oh yes the problems!
1.The last time the car was running it was blowing back from the carb barrels and flames would protrude now and then. As cool as this looks I’m really quite concerned.
2.It also tended to ‘run away’ a bit if you revved the engine. The revs would increase but not return when the throttle was released, only when load as applied to the engine (good job I’d reconnected the clutch!).
3.The engine also ‘runs on’ when the ignition has been switched off, only a couple of turns then bangs. Not good.
I think that all of the above are a combination of carb and timing? The carbs are twin 40 Webber down draughts with the dizzy mounted in the cylinder head.
Does anyone have any advice or could possibly point me in the right direction?
Thanks a lot chaps
jim

I'd check the timing first, then if this didn't sort it, you're probably looking to clean out the carbs, then retune them. I would disconnect the throttle linkage from the pedal, and see if revs fall quickly when you increase revs direct from the carbs - if it does it's somewhere in the linkage, if it doesn't carbs probably need cleaned/adjusted/synchronised.
All the above assumes basics ok - dizzy cap, leads, plugs and no dampness.
Did car run ok previously? - son's twin cam had cam belt installed 1 tooth out which didn't help it.

Brakes? ... brakes are for squares!!!
Well it they have webber written on them, have 40mm chokes and set vertically! The same as the ones our german friends use on the beetle flat 4 I think.
I've decided to sell
I need to buy a house and finish my degree, besides always wanted a soft top. Anyone interested in a '55 2l twin cam? Pictures here http://www.minormania.com/gallery.php?p ... _custom_34 not on the road at the minute though.

Yes... (although don't ask me how I'd pay for itAnyone interested in a '55 2l twin cam?

It looks a tidy car but with no MOT and no brakes and not running right, what kind of figure did you have in mind?
Also the detailing looks rather familiar - was it an AWC car?
