Horn Wiring
I have just got a van and the horn wire is cut off at the top of the steering column. Does anyone know if this easy to re-wire ?[/b]

Lo, it depends,of course on exactly where it is cut off.
it should be a purple/black lead which comes directly
from one side of the horn to a bullet connector and
then to the horn push itself. The horn is 'live'at all times, operating the horn push connects the purple/black wire to chassis to complete the circuit. The year of your vehicle
makes a difference to the horn arrangement.

The Van is a '71 and I have now been able to take the indicator off and see how it is wired. I can extend the wire going up the column quite easily but Clearly there is something which goes between this wire and the Horn push which just has a brass tab. What goes between the wire and the horn push ?

Chris, cannot tell you the exact layout as my earlier
Minor has a different arrangement but from memory
there should be a 'slip ring' and a sprung arm to
which your cut off wire should be connected. This
connects the wire to the horn push and earths it
when the push is pressed. Best to look at an
actual car.

not sure if this will help
i have a 1971 van also.
when you take the horn button out of the steering column can you see the connector that has a spring under it, from memery they are clear plastic sleeve with a spring under to keep the tension on the bottom of the horn push.
this is always live.
there is a wire going from the brass connector on the indicator stalk to a bullit connector under the dash, this then goes to the horn.
make sure the brass connector on the indicator stalk is in contact with the brass ring on the top of the steering column.
