Well I'd say change the cylinders rather than mess around with seals

If the car's been standing they may not be seized, it could be that the drum is corroded making it stick. My honda was like this on Sunday after 7 weeks sitting with the handbrake on :(
Try driving a SHORT distance and stamping on the brakes too - that cured my stuck handbrake on the Honda, although it left a long scrape mark on my mum's drive before it freed up

I would completely strip and clean everything - and test each and every wheel cylinder for sticking, and leaking! The rears in particular tend to seize on - they are two part - the outer piston is for handbrake and the inner for the footbrake.

Sooo ...

Played silly murfens and got very wet today ..

It was all a big lie .. the front's were fine .. Free as a bird and moving perfectly .. (track rod ends a nightmare however) ..

Then I went to the back ..

As I suspected Seized solid .. LITERALLY even in a vice no movement whatever .. does not seem to matter what I do ..

Oddly I only had two bills with this car one for welding and one (for £483) for brakes.

They list changing both rear wheel cylinders and replacing the pipeing ..

Have a look at the picture on "My page 2"
http://mogpics.mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/

(I don't use the imagedump site anymore as it appears to a repositry for some "Interesting images")

The wheel cylinder looks totally different to to the one on the ESM site ..

Is it even possible that this is the wrong wheel cylinder ?

For that money I would want solid gold cylinders.

If they are that badly seized - get new cylinders. When adjusting these - first loosen off the handbrake cables (and make sure they are not seized) - then adjust up the brakes on the cam - then adjust the cables to get the handbrake where you want it. I prefer to leave a bit of travel in the handbrake so the pistons are kept moving. And £483 for brakes ! I doubt even ALL NEW parts would come to anything like that!!

I have to say I was a little shocked ... but then this was three years ago and I £200 for the car two weeks ago ...

I'm very concerned though that the brake pipes are AWFULL .. very badly flared and the nut would not turn without bending the pipes .. Obviously a part made by the garage ... (and charged £20 each for) ESM has the part made specially for £3.50 .. (I just cut the pipes out and ordered them from ESM ..)

Be aware that the brake pipe connections at the rear of the Minor are 3/8" Whitworth (or UNC) thread - the fronts are the more normal 3/8" UNF. They are NOT interchangeable. Try to get pipes made from Kunifer (NOT copper) and they will last 'for ever'. I make my own - 10' length of pipe £1 and fittings 20p each - at autojumble.

OH ..

I've ordered the pipes from ESM ...

Towards the bottom of the page ... I've had alot of stuff from ESM and it is always the highest quality ..

3.50 is well worth it for Zero hassle ..

The thing that worries me is that the work that they have done is so bad that in I may have problems with the other bits they have done .. All new handbrake cables .. etc etc ..
