I have just had my block washed, and it came out like this:
I have also been busy reading mr Newells "Original Morris Minor". I was reading on page 29, the engine bit, and he writes there were also engines originally painted red! Since my engine is the original, and it is red inside, should I hereby conclude it should be red?
What is your concours comment on this?

Picture didn't show the first time I looked. So red it will be! I'd better get it matched up, now I still have some red left

Providing that the red is not covering any other colour, and is not simply red oxide, then it may well have been red. However looking at the picture it could equally have been grey, light blue or green, all colours that were originally used. Sorry!
But Judge, I was referring to the colours inside, they most certainly are not red oxide, it's a smooth surface. All the colours on the outside flaked of easily, except the red.

Sorry, I should have explained a little more clearly. The red does appear to be the original colour, it was just that even on the inside there appears to be a little blue/grey colouring. It's possibly not paint, but relying on a photograph is not like seeing the real thing.
Very true indeed! Did they ever match up engine-colour and body-colour? I don't know if I'd like the combination Platinum Grey and Morris Engine Red

Well, obviously, but I don't really like the redness. I'd prefer grey or green, even though red would stand out in a PG car.

I just used a metal specific paint (Killrust is the brand out here) & it's a standard grey they have. It's around 10 years since it's been painted so it's held up quite well.

Rightio Scott! Will look into the subject. Does the paint have to be a tad flexible? This because of the heat produced by the horses and the pony.

Heat doesn't seem to affect paint on the engine at all.
It's flaked off in a couple of areas from getting a bit close with the pressure washer but that's about all.
I've done other engines in just everyday spray enamel without problems (they have had alloy heads though & the heads weren't painted).

That is nice to know! Did you see I found myself a sample of Platinum Grey?
