Having borrowed dosh from a star of a friend my moggie was transported to a clutch centre in Staples Corner. They gave me the best quote (£98.00 inclusive of vat plus the clutch kit, over £150.00 less than everyone else I called in London.) They did a great job and were all jolly nice! If anyone wants their contact details, or if I'm allowed to tell you about them here then please let me know. They guarantee their work for two years and adjust the clutch after so many miles for free...and they offered me cups of tea...happy days

So - I guess it's now fixed and running (and thank goodness it was indeed the clutch!) - but what exactly had gone wrong with it ? Did they show you the cause of the problem ?

They showed me the old clutch which was so worn there was hardly anything left! This came as a bit of a surprise because about five years (or less) ago I had a new gearbox put in along with allegedly, a clutch. The gearbox went a few years later and I got one from Ray (which is still going...hoorah and touch wood). The clutch they showed me today looked as though it was at least twenty years old...this said, Wales is a hilly place. Now to tackle the oily gunk

Fablovely,
So glad you got it sorted out. You are allowed to name a company that has done good work as long as the information you give is factual.
Fablovely, if you bring the car somewhere nearer to College I am still willing to do the compression test and do the head gasket for you... (if thats what it is).
