A question about Issigonis

Firstly, I'd just like to say hello everyone. I've just popped over here from www.minifinity.com to ask a question which has been puzzling a few of us.

We are trying to find out where Sir Alec Issigonis is buried. when we do eventually find out we're might get a load of us together for a sort of pilgramage. If we find the location you're of course more than welcome to join in.

I was just wondering if any of you knew of his current where abouts?

I don't know where he was buried, but I do believe at the last minute the undertaker had to add an extra 4" to the width of the coffin lid, for no fully explained reason ;)

Luckly I've been reading a bit of this forum, otherwise I would not of had a clue about the 4 inch thing...

Yeah, time to move up to the cars with the drive wheels at the right end... Still no luck with the grave's site, or any obits, or any reference to the funeral. Very odd - most of the books I have were published before his death, which explains that, but I'd have thought the interweb would have had *something*. Anyone have/know someone who has access to a newspaper cuttings library?

Heh heh, I think I'll stick with the minis for now.

I had thouht about checking out some old newspapers in the libary in town. Maybe The Times from October the 3rd 1988 would have something. I never got round to it though, but now I'm on Summer holidays I've got loads of free time so I'll get myself down there sometime and have a look.

Sir Alec died at his home in Edgbaston in 1988, so perhaps he's buried there too?

I used to really LOVE Minis.... until I discovered rear wheel drive!

Edgbaston?! As In Edgbaston, Birmingham?! As in 5 minutes down the road from me...? Be interested to have a tour round and see if I can find it...

While trying to find some information on this, as I'm sure a few have , I found a website which I can't now find.
It was "dedicated" to the Mini and it's designer Alec Issogonis. The strange thing was the page background had images of the little BMW now wrongly titled "Mini." If I can find it I'll post a link.

Issigonis has been found, well, someone found out where his ashes were scattered.

"Lodge Hill Crematorium in Selly Oak where his ashes were later scattered in the garden of rememberance"

Thats the place, anyway, we may or may not go down there as a group, or just one or two of us, or whatever, anyway, I'll tell you if we go and your welcome to come along. You'll probably get bored waiting and organise your own trip, which might be easier, heh heh.

The funeral of Sir Alec Issiginis commenced at 14.00h on Tuesday 11th October 1988 at St. George's Church, Edgbaston. His ashes were later scattered in the Garden of Remembrance at Lodge Hill Crematorium, Selly Oak.

The Memorial Service commenced at 15.00h on Friday 4th November 1988 at Birmingham Cathedral (Colmore Row); on the forecourt outside stood the first production Minor (NWL 576), the first production Mini and a new Mini fresh from the production line.

In this particular case, the answer is that I attended the funeral and was invited to the memorial service. However, I have been a researcher and archivist (in several fields) for many years.
