metro seatbelts

probably been done already , ive just fitted 2 front belts from a metro to my pickup,what a difference not having to fumble around for the female end of the orrible old style belt, a bolt on job too, just had too drill 2 holes in prop tunnel for the female ends, right then, i deserve a beer

Just one thing... If you had to drill holes in the tunnel to fit the clip ends, did you do anything about reinforcing?

I'm not big on the whole safety thing, but - If you're going to trust your life to some bits of webbing, it's best they're properly tied to the metalwork!

done a few creature comfort mods lately,rear fog light, cigar lighter for charging the dog, clock, and a stereo after 2 years,sorted

Might seem an obvious question, but do metro front seatbelts fit easily to a 2-door Moggy saloon? I've been pondering the possibility of buying one of the inertia reel kits from ESM.

I have no idea - But I may well have a pair of good condition front belts going spare early in the new year

I'm sure the ones I've got have the threaded "nut" on the reel bracket not the car though - There's a hole in the pillar, the reel is on a bracket that goes behind this hole, bolt goes through pillar into bracket (I've probably made that mud clear). And there's another small fastening at the top of the reel.

I know a bit of fiddling can probably get round that sort of problem easily enough, but it might be easier just to get belts that'll fit straight away....

easy , the threaded nut u talk of has to be drilled out slightly so u can push the bolt right through, i then attached the other end of the belt to the same bolt on one side and in a hole in the inner sill on other, they work great ,im gonna fit some in the 55

That was the bit of fiddling I was thinking about

Makes sense if you've already got the belts I suppose, but otherwise I reckon it must be more straightforward to find something without the silly plate and nut to worry about

Has anybody ever fitted Mini seatbets into a Minor? My son has just stripped a nice brown set out of his 88 Mayfair to replace with black and I was thinking of fitting them in the van. After years of driving around with no seatbelts I think its time to stop pushing my luck.
It all seams pretty straightfoward but perhaps someone knows different.

I fitted Mini retractingseatbelts to my 67 Minor. They are marked Securon, I don't know if there were different types for the Mini. the reel bolted in to a captive nut on the inner sill. However my first Minor, a 66 did not have this captive nut; the original static seatbelts were bolted to the floor.

VW Polo belts from a Mk11 or Mk111 car (1982 - 1994) fit very easily - both fronts and backs. But make sure you don't mix them up as the backs will be to short to fit as fronts.

hi all, I have non retractable seat belts which I want to replace in a two door saloon, my question is where do inertia belts fit? If I use the original mounts the top mount isn't in line with the bottom. There doesn't seem to be any where suitable for the top mount.

You just use the original mounts, the seat belt still works well.

But you must make sure you get the right ones for a 2 Door as they are different from the 4 door and Traveller ones.

Up to a point.

You need with most modern seatbelt units to get them completely vertical in Both planes
I.e fore and aft as well as side to side.

With ours (fiesta units) I had to make sure when bolted they were perfectly straight up even though the strap is pulled out at a slight angle.

While a static belt is tiresome its a lot less tiresome than a inertia reel that keeps locking while you try to pull it out. or one that attempts to dislocate your shoulder by locking when you don't need it to.

I have two Securon belts like that in the Trav - paid £50 for two. Chap fitted them for me, but I was buying a car off him...

Look on the Securon site for those where the orientation is adjustable, there's quite a selection. The ones they list for use in the Minor aren't adjustable though. No idea why.
