SII heater matrix - SIII replacement

Hello all,
I don't know where to put this, but hey, move it if you want.


As some of you know, I flushed my old matrix some weeks ago. Apperently the only thing that made it work, and what made it seal, was gunk. Which I flushed out...

So I had a leaky matrix, which didn't produce more than a mildly luke warm breeze.

So there I was, without a heater, and no replacements available.
So I got a SIII heater. Which looks about the same, but isn't.

Now to the point,
The SIII heater can be rebuild to fit the SII round gold heater, it only requires the drilling of bigger holes. And the matrix is a couple of mm thicker, so you need more tension to get the clips on. The SII motor just fits, its actually quite a tight fit.

One thing one should be careful with, is the fan blades, they bend easily.
Also, if your heater doesn't produce much airflow, check your earth, I did, and I now have twice the power!

Since you've actually done the conversion (and it works) I think this qualifies as advice. Best to put it in the 'tips' section I think...

I have heard of the matrix in these heaters being replaced with a multi-turn coil of copper pipe. No idea how effective it is - but then the original heater is pretty much useless anyway!

Don't insult my heater! It is a very sensitive piece of equipment.
It is now working quite well, gets the car nice and warm, pity it is a recirculating unit

But you are right BMCecosse copper pipes were used in that way in the old "Clayton airconditioning and demisting unit" as found in my MM
