HELLO GANG--Am about to renew the upper trunnions--never done this job before , any tips welcome-or reference work.Regards Bill and Twinkle the traveller.

I did this ages ago and it was quite straightforward after removing the nut and tapping the damper arm off (I was also replacing the damper at the time). However it has to be mentioned that when you unscrew the upper trunnion you might discover that the thread on the leg is badly worn - it should have a square profile. Apparently a badly worn thread looks like a typical thread on a screw, ie. thin & sharp. If that's the case a new upper trunnion isn't going to prevent an impending collapse.

When you screw the trunnion fully home you need to back it off, to make sure that the trunnion can turn each way of its assembled position, turn the wheels lock to lock to see how much this is before you dismantle the suspension.

Normally the lower end thread wears out well before the upper thread. Unusual to be renewing the trunnion - or are you just renewing the rubber bushes ?

If you are just renewing the bushes then I would recommend the plastic
variety(yellow).

Not so BMC, the yellow plastic bushes which I have fitted are actually softer
than the original rubber type but do not seem to wear out as fast. I would not
recommend HARD plastic replacements for anywhere except the eye bolt
bushes.

Eh? Do you mean for putting the things on? I use spray on White Greae from Halfrauds.

Yes I did, as long as it is greasy, and doesn't kill the rubber. It really has to be acid free, if my memory tells me right

it is only certain types of poly bushes that should be put on with any white grease etc

I don't know about upgraded bushes, all I know is that I need to replace my bushes at the back. 1 year old these!

I would not even put them there. I had the HARD plastic typess installed and they disintegrated when used in the eyebolts.

I changed to the yellow 'Superflex' ones from JLH and they have been great.

HIY GANG--Bill here--well im replacing the Top Trunions as i have had these in stock for some time now, I m replacing the two dampers L&R as these are leaking,-we live miles off the beaten track and they have really taken a beating-hence the replacment of top trunions and dampers all in one go, many many thanks for the input--Best Regards Bill and Twinkle the traveller.
