Valve and Spring Assembly

Post by MalaysianMoggy »

I have started to overhaul to the cyl head on my 1098 (you may recall the removal saga) - When I started to remove the valves I noticed that 2 of the valve springs were missing the circlip that clips round the 2 shims at the top of the valve stem. I have not been able to locate any of these from any on-line parts store (or locally) and one store told me they are no longer available but not to bother as they do not serve any real purpose.

Question is, are these clips required? And if they are does any one have a couple to spare?

Thanks and Seasons Greetings to you all.

My understanding is that they're only of use at assembly time, holding the collets together on the valve to stop fingers getting caught when releasing the valve spring compressor.

Once the collets are down inside the spring cap they're not going anywhere!

Thanks Shawn, understand - the spring pressure keeps it all in place once assembled.

Nice to have someone in a similar time zone! - do you have any contacts for good spares support in QLD? i can get things brought across from there easily.

Cheers

Throw them away. Not needed at all.
