How to fix ones heater Matrix?

Post by Onne »

Since I have flushed my heater Matrix, there is a slight coolant loss, behind the dashboard. But the rear of the heater is not wet, so that counts out the hoses.
Which only leaves the matrix to blame.

Very important, I have got the small round heater, as fitted to Deluxe series II

Can I replace just the matrix, or do I have to replace the complte thing.

The latter not to be preferred, as it is a very nice heater to look at

Just for some extra info, there doesn't seem to be any pressure build up, I can remove the rdaiaotor cap at all times, without my face getting a steam clean

Hi Onne

Yes you can replace just the Matrix - you can replace it with another MM/S11 one or the later 948 (S111) one - this looks slightly different but is a direct replacement and you cant see it when fitted.

You can't get them new from regular suppliers - if you're very lucky - new old stock - otherwise its 2nd hand - the heaters come up regularly on ebay. Otherwise you can get your matrix repaired by a radiator specialist.

I flushed my heater today too - I now have a stream running through the footwells (out of the matrix - SII round gold heater - snap!)

Unfortunately I have only 3 days to sort a replacement!!!
I opened this thread hoping to see something like 'oh yes, ESM have them in stock ready to exchange...

I got several funny looks and refusals when I tried radiator specialists over here with the same problem.

Gave up and fited an aftermarket period unit.

Don't say that! I was talking to my radfix man, and he said it wouldn't be a problem

The problem is that it isn't a flat panel matrix like the later ones - it is a very funky round thing which gives almost no chance to reach most areas apart from those at the outside.
