what should I do for colour?

Post by Onne »

Hello all,
I need your help, to decide what colour to go for
As I found out my MM was originally Platinum Grey, but later painted black, and now blue.

So if you could do me a choice between the black and the platinum grey
Bearing in mind Platinum Grey is a rare colour.
Deep in my heart I love black. but then I already have a black car

I'm selfish. One of mine SHOULD be grey for originality, but it's not going to be anything like original otherwise... I do love grey on saloons though.

Looks that way so far. Go on, go for the grey, and you can always go for the full Concours over the years.. PS I'll help you polish!

No. They like cleaning their tyres with a toothbrush (well the one's I've seen do).

You don't have to go concours, just keep it the original colour. You can always go concours later when you find a car that's had no welding and you've retired and have loads of time on your hands.

I voted grey purely because I would want to try and keep an early car as original as possible, however its your car and its your choice which colour you should spray it!

I'm going to try for Concours with my '52 but not in the big leagues. You just loose points for certain items. Nothing wrong with entering your car in condition class and working your way up if you wish!

Actually, that's a point that I KEEP meaning to ask Bill about (and KEEP forgetting!). How is welding viewed in concours circles?

Through a welding mask, I hope! ;)

sorry, Cam couldn;t resist!!! ;)

Onne, try your local automotive paint factor with the Morris/BMC codes for plat grey.

They ICI code meant nothing to my local place, but they managed to mix perfect BMC black and Snowberry white from the BMC codes in their big book.

Very friendly and helpful too, and they can make up aerosol cans too.

CARS (Channel Auto refinishing supplies) in Broadstairs, for anyone readin in Thanet.
Cheers John - all comments IMHO

Two of my fave Minor colours are Clarendon grey and Yukon grey. Although I don't know what shade Platinum is I'll vote for that. Black is by far the smartest colour when it is clean but hey, some days you just can't be bothered or can't spare the time to take that minute layer of road filth off - that's when the grey car becomes the favourite.
Older and more confused than I could ever imagine possible.
