vehicle dipping to remove paint, rust etc.
I am about to get another Minor which needs major surgery. Having seen at shows and in magazines a process where they dip the whole car to remove all paint, underseal and rust leaving the shell passivated ready for repair or coating I enquired from the company to find out an idea of cost.
If I strip the car down to a bare shell and deliver to their premises the cost would be £ 550 plus VAT !!!!!!!!!!
Thats a lot of wire brushes, paper, jenolite whatever.
Would anyone pay this prices?
Dave

I'd guess that's not too bad a price for having the whole car treated (remembering that the whole thing is done quickly - not over several weeks with bits rusting again!)
Mind you, it's a heck of a job stripping the car - 'cos I guess you can't leave any plastic in it....
I wonder how good the treatment is?

In order to save duplication I will post a couple of the examples I received from the stripping company, which show the vehicle before and after the process

Looks good, and far less agressive than shotblasting. It will strat rusting straight away, if you don't get it prepped, won't it?

Well they say it will be stable and rust free for several days or even weeks but must be kept dry.
It does sound very impressive and it's located in Dudley, so about 44 miles south of me!
Jonathon, it does remove the rust and you are left with a rust free, clean steel bodyshell.
Of course you'd then need a complete acid etch promer coat. Now I wonder who could do that...

Could do, must admit Ive got several car's to shot blast over the next few months, not really my favourite job especially at this time of year, so I may ask for more details of this company. Transportation from this place to have the shell etched would not be a problem. Could be a whole new line of business!!

Looks like a good idea, just depends whether you want to spend £500+ quids of spend the time!
reminds me of a cartoon in Practical classics, the caption was " the good news is we got rid of all the rust"
the punchline was a pic of a car with no bottom 6" !!
