SKIMMING CYLINDER HEADS

Post by Nigel2 »

As a follow on from Shawns post and one of my reply's - is it safe to skim a 12G202 head by 60 thou as suggested. I presume it must be OK but you must be getting very close to breaking into the oilway. I would like to go this way as I have all the bits.

The oilway runs upwards at about 40° so I doubt that will be a problem. The exit point ot the oilway will move due to the slimming, but the big hole in the gasket allows for some missalignment.

Up to 80 thou should be ok on a 202 - but 60 is very safe. Be sure to remove all the sharp edges around the combustion chambers with a small hand held file before re-fitting the head.
