Hello all, as per a question in previous thread, can anyone write (or is there one already) a set of step by step instructions (for idiots) for statically setting the ignition timing? I'm taking the engine out at the weekend and will have to do this... it's the thing I'm least familiar with. What do I need to make sure with the dizzy once the 1st cylinder is TDC?
There are two positions where the timing marks will indicate top dead centre
so it is important to check that when the timing marks are aligned both
number one and two valves are SHUT i.e. number one cylinder is therefore on its compression stroke. If this is not the case then turn the engine again
until this condition is reached.
